Late Impact of COVID-19 Pneumonia on Testosterone Levels in Recovered, Post-Hospitalized Male Patients

Background: Recent studies reported lower androgen levels in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) hospitalized patients which linked to a worse prognosis. However, these were conducted with active and long-term consequences are still not yet known. Therefore, we aimed evaluate the late impact of COVID-19 pneumonia on testosterone recovered, post-hospitalized males. Methods: We enrolled 55 pneumonia-recovered, male after an average 60 days discharge from hospital 40 age, body mass index (BMI), waist-matched participants this case-control study. The total cut-off point was set as 300 ng/dL for luteinizing hormone (LH) 9.4 IU/L. Results: Testosterone deficiency prevalence 50.9%, mainly hypogonadotropic (60.7%). Late recovered had significantly calculated free higher LH ratio comparison control group. Testosterone-deficient anthropometric parameters such waist circumference BMI, Charlson Comorbidity Index, longer hospitalization time testosterone-sufficient patients.
